This pattern is present exactly, along with samples of the same design in other colorways, in the c. 1815 Bertinazzi sample book (p. 90, #5 and #1–4). While this version resembles a blind impression in a veined orange paste layer, the other colorways show definitively that the block impression is a positive one, with the veins formed as the paper is pulled away from the block. Note also a similar but distinct pattern used on both 25.032 and 25.046.
