A Collection of 18th-Century Decorated Papers and Paper Bindings
Title:
Istoria della vita di M. Tullio Cicerone
Author:
Imprint Date:
1744
Publishing Colophon:
Presso Giambatista Pasquali. Con licenza de’ superiori, e privilegio.
Binding:
Limp paper binding with a blockprinted secondary paper covering. Two laced tawed thong supports.
Paper:
Single-color blockprint: geometric tulip and daisy pattern.
Collector's Notes:
Three volumes numbered 3, 4, and 5. The tulips are oriented upward toward the head edge of the textblock for all three bindings, but volume 5 was mistakenly labelled upside-down on the tail end of the spine. An identical pattern is described in The MET Collection as an "Anonymous, 19th century" production (#39.13.213), but I see no reason to doubt it as contemporary to these bindings.
