Full leather binding with silver clasp hardware, blockprinted and irispapier endpapers. All gilt and gauffered textblock edges.
Paper:
Two-color blockprint: falling black sprigs with black and negative black-eyed peas on a yellow field; green and white vertically striped irispapier with geometrically oriented yellow triangles, red daisy and dot pattern.
Collector's Notes:
Bound with Biblia, Das ist: Die ganze Heilige Schrift Alten und Neuen Testaments nach der teutschen Ueberfeßung D. Martin Luthers, Lemgo, 1815. This earlier text is clearly original to the binding while the other was added later, evidenced by the extended fore-edge and broken gauffering pattern. The Irispapier endpaper folio is closer to 1830s fashion and appears to have been adhered—probably with the addition of the later text—directly atop an existing paper, which may match the front folio.
The green colorant on the back endpaper folio was determined to contain chromium and lead (without arsenic) via x-ray fluorescence in July 2025. XRF also revealed the clasp hardware to be silver-plated brass (Cu + Zn).
