Collector's Notes:
This book is absolutely massive, note the English 1 pound coin in the corner of the main photo. This is also the binding which first drew my attention to their being called "laced paper case" bindings---the sewing supports are clearly laced through the cartonnage underneath the decorated paper, meaning that the book already had "boards" when the final paper covering was applied, precluding the "case" classification. Virtually every Italian-style limp paper binding I've seen has been constructed in this manner.
