Collector's Notes:

The red brocade paper is signed near the bottom: [M]UNCK A V, with the initials representing Augustae Vindelicorum, the latinization of the city of Augsburg. Another example of this paper in the collection of the Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz (1766_025-026-001) hones the attribution to Johann Michael, who was active in the 1740s and 1750s. His son, Johann Carl, carried on this business starting around 1761.

The green paper on the spine has possible attribution covered by red paper, and is also reproduced in a different colorway in P.J.M. Marks, pp. 112-113, where it is tentatively attributed to both Simon Haichele and, later, Johann Carl Munck.
