A Collection of 18th-Century Decorated Papers and Paper Bindings
Title:
Agriculture Expérimentale
Author:
de Sutieres, Sarcey
Imprint Date:
1765
Publishing Colophon:
Yverdon
Binding:
Full block-printed paper over boards. Printed waste transverse spine lining/stiffener, manuscript spine label.
Paper:
Single color blockprint, red large-scale floral design (carnation, strawberry, daisy, raspberry? hop?)
Collector's Notes:
Cord supports laced through thin pulpboards, decorated paper adhered directly to spine, though mostly lost now. I wonder about designs based on negative space (e.g. this one and the endpapers on 24.104), and whether that technique is it all correlated with earlier bindings.
